BERTOLUCCI RETURNS TO HOLLYWOOD: “A MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION” PREMIERES AT LA, ITALIA 2026 WITH MAX DI CARLO INTRODUCING THE DOCUMENTARY

LOS ANGELES — The documentary “Bernardo Bertolucci: A Magnificent Obsession,” directed by Marco Spagnoli, had its U.S. Premiere during the 21st edition of LA, Italia – Film, Fashion and Art Festival, offering Hollywood audiences a compelling portrait of one of the greatest filmmakers in the history of world cinema.

The screening took place as part of the festival’s DOCU IS WORTH section, dedicated to outstanding documentary storytelling. Before the projection, music composer Max Di Carlo introduced the film, presenting the project to the audience and highlighting the enduring artistic legacy of Bernardo Bertolucci.

Through archival footage, testimonies and reflections on his creative journey, the documentary retraces the life and work of the Italian master whose films reshaped international cinema. From his early collaborations to the global success of masterpieces such as “Last Tango in Paris,” “The Last Emperor,” and “1900,” Bertolucci’s cinema emerges as a constant exploration of politics, desire, identity and artistic freedom.

Directed by journalist and filmmaker Marco Spagnoli, “Bernardo Bertolucci: A Magnificent Obsession” offers an intimate and passionate look at the director’s creative vision and the cultural impact of his work, reaffirming his place among the most influential voices of modern cinema.

The presentation at LA, Italia 2026 formed part of the festival’s tribute to Bernardo Bertolucci, marking the 50th anniversary of his epic film “1900 (Novecento)”, and celebrating the enduring influence of Italian cinema on the international stage.

Founded and produced by Pascal Vicedomini, LA, Italia – Film, Fashion and Art Festival is promoted by the Istituto Capri nel Mondo with the support of the Italian Ministry of Culture, under the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT), in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo, KPMG and Rainbow, and with the participation of the Consulate General of Italy in Los Angeles, ICE – Italian Trade Agency, and the Italian Cultural Institute of Los Angeles.
