Film Will Be One Of The Outstanding Documentaries To Be Presented
At The Festival’s 16th Edition, Scheduled from April 18 to 24, 2021

LOS ANGELES, March xx, 2021 – A tribute to to the Italian filmmaker Gianfranco Rosi will be one of the highlights of the forthcoming 16th edition of the Los Angeles, Italia – Film, Fashion and Art Festival, the pre-eminent showcase of Italian culture in the United States, that will take place virtrually from April 18-24, the week preceding the 92nd Academy Awards®.

“Notturno,” which is Italy’s official entry in the Oscars, is one of the 15 titles shortlisted for a nomination in the Best International Feature Film category. During the course of the Festival, Rosi will be honored with a retrospective including some of his most acclaimed works such as “Fuocoammare,” “Sacro GRA” and “Below Sea Level.” The director  will also receive the prestigious “LA, Italia People Award 2021.”

”We are preparing a tribute to Gianfranco Rosi, a great filmmaker endowed with touching human qualities, a true representative of the cultural bridge we have been creating between Italy and Hollywood through our festivals,” said Marina Cicogna, honorary board member of Los Angeles, Italia. “We are happy to honor his latest film, ‘Notturno’ whilst recognizing his body of work whose global language and poignant perspective  has enthralled the world.”

“’Notturno,’ a documentary delving into the daily life of  the most difficult and dangerous middle-eastern war zones, and showing the most human aspects of the people living in these areas,  was introduced at the Venice Film Festival and went on to receive wide critical acclaim at the Toronto, New York, Telluride, London, Tokyo, Busan, Sao Paulo and Vienna film festivals,” she added.

Los Angeles, Italia 2021 will be dedicated to  Sophia Loren, the beloved and iconic Italian actress who currently stars in Eduardo Ponti’s “The Life Ahead.” The film’s original song, written by the American composer Diane Warren and sung in the Italian version by Laura Pausini, who recieved a Golden Globe® for her perfomance, has also been shortlisted in its category.

The tribute to Loren,who will be presented with LA, Italia’s ‘LA Legend Award,’ thirty years after receiving her honorary Oscar, will open the Festival section ‘The Italian Masters’ which includes Rosi’s film.

Los Angeles, Italia, produced by Pascal Vicedomini and presented by the Capri in the World Institute, is the most presigious Italian film and audiovisual festival in the US. It is supported by Italy’s Ministry of Current Affairs, MiC (Director General Cinema and Audiovisual Departments) with the participation of Intesa Sanpaolo, Rai Cinema, Rai Com, Rainbow, Medusa, Iervolino Entertainment and Isaia, as well as the Italian Consulate General, Ice and the Italian Institute of Culture in Los Angeles.
