On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death (on May 2, 1519), Sky – with Progetto Immagine – produces a new art movie: AMAZING, LEONARDO, that will be distributed in Italian cinemas during 2019 by Lucky Red and afterwards internationally by True Colours.
“Amazing Leonardo” will be presented in a world premiere at the Los Angeles, Italia Festival during the opening evening on February 17 at the TLC Chinese Theatre in Hollywood: the director Jesus Garces Lambert, actress Angela Fontana (playing Cecilia Gallerani) and Cosetta Lagani, the mastermind behind the movie (together with Sara Mosetti) and artistic director of this project and of Sky’s previous art movies, will introduce some exclusive clips of the movie.
Luca Argentero plays Leonardo da Vinci, it’s the first time the Italian actor plays the part of a real person in a biographical art movie. Angela Fontana is Cecilia Gallerani and Massimo De Lorenzo plays Ludovico il Moro. The storyteller is Francesco Pannofino. The director of the movie is Jesus Garces Lambert, who also directed Sky’s art movie “Caravaggio – l’anima e il sangue” (the blockbuster of Italian art movies in Italy and winner of the Golden Globe) and recently selected by Forbes as one of the most creative Mexican personalities of 2018, alongside, among others, Alfonso Cuarón, Guillermo del Toro and Alejandro González Iñárritu. The screenplay is by Sara Mosetti and Marcello Olivieri. Pietro C. Marani is the science advisor. Daniele Ciprì is the director of photography.
The movie is an immersive and incredible journey inside Leonardo da Vinci’s mind, to discover the man, the artist, the scientist, the inventor, one of the most brilliant figures of the history of humanity, known to all for “the most famous painting in the world”, the Mona Lisa. A new glance very far from the stereotypes with which usually Leonardo’s genius is described.
Two more Sky art movies will be screened at the Los Angeles, Italia Festival: on Sunday February 17, “Michelangelo, Infinito”, with Enrico Lo Verso and Ivano Marescotti and the direction of Emanuele Imbucci, that recorded excellent results in Italy and a great success among the public and that now begins its journey all over the world and, on Monday February 18, “Caravaggio, il sangue e l’anima”, already distributed in 50 countries around the world and which will make its debut in cinemas across the US on March 12, 2019 distributed By Experience.
The movie “Amazing Leonardo” is a Sky original production with Progetto Immagine. It benefits from the Patronage of the Comitato Nazionale per le Celebrazioni dei 500 anni dalla morte di Leonardo da Vinci e del Comitato Scientifico del Palinsesto Milano Leonardo 500 and of the Acknowledgement of the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
